The Iowa House has overwhelmingly approved a bill that would give Iowans a clear right to repair their farm equipment.
The bill would require manufacturers to make parts, software and tools needed for farm equipment repairs available to equipment owners at fair and reasonable terms or costs.
The bill also would ensure data collected by equipment, such as a combine, could not be sold by manufacturers to other businesses that might use it for surveillance pricing. Backers say harvest data could allow a company to determine which farmers could afford to pay more for seeds or fertilizer.
