Belmond-Klemme, Hampton-Dumont-CAL and West Fork had boys and girls teams competing Friday at the Jim Basye Co-Ed Relays, while South Hardin was represented in the girls meet.

On the girls side, West Fork led the area teams with a fourth-place finish. South Hardin placed seventh, Hampton-Dumont-CAL was 10th and Belmond-Klemme finished 14th.

For the boys, Hampton-Dumont-CAL led the area teams with a sixth-place finish. West Fork finished eighth, while Belmond-Klemme was ninth.

The West Fork girls had another record-setting night, as the 800-meter sprint medley team of Alyssa Wood, Jojo Schmidt, Evie Hitzhusen and Talia Pommrehn placed second in 1:53.90. The time broke the previous school record of 1:54.85 set earlier this season.

West Fork Head Coach Ashley Sears says the team keeps building as the postseason approaches.

“It’s been a good night so far,” Sears says. “We’ve seen a lot of season bests. Our throwers really started pulling ahead and doing kind of what we knew they were capable of in shot and in disc. I think everybody that threw tonight had a season best, so that’s a good win. Our sprint med came out strong, set another school record, and they’re keeping dropping the times. I’m very excited to see what they can do in the next couple meets to get prepared for districts.”

Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s Beau Morton also had a strong night, winning the boys shot put by more than 5 feet. Morton says he has his sights set on the school record as the season moves forward.

“There’s an old school record that I’m trying to aim for this season. It’s like 56-7 from the 1980s,” Morton says. “So I’ve been just working toward that every single day. I think I’m capable of getting it, and I know I got what it takes.”
