
The Aplington-Parkersburg boys tennis team earned its first NICL championship since 2023, tying Columbus Catholic with 40 team points at Tuesday’s conference championships at Byrnes Park. The tie wasn’t able to be broken by the conference’s traditional tiebreaking methods, so it was decided among the coaches that the Falcons and Sailors would share the title.
AP Coach Grant Wedeking says despite the tie, they accomplished their goal.
Those winning singles titles for AP included Kaidyn Purdy at #2, Sam Janssen at #5 and Noah Harbaugh at #6. Janssen on the performance.
AP’s Jonah Carney and Noah Harbaugh won the title at #3 doubles.
All other AP players placed second, including singles players Tyler Wedeking at #1, Troy Neymeyer at #3 and Jonah Carney at #4; and doubles pairs Purdy/Neymeyer at #1 and Wedeking/Janssen at #2.
Grundy Center placed third with 23 points. Three singles players placed third, including Carson Laube at #1, Kael Edwards at #2 and Liam Gingery at #4. Gingery/Lincoln Lewis at #3 doubles placed second.
The Falcons and Spartans will close their regular seasons against each other in a dual Thursday.
