
Tuesday was a record-setting night for the AP/DNH and Aplington-Parkersburg soccer teams.
In a game that aired on 99 The Wave and RadioOnTheGo’s YouTube channel, the United defeated Columbus Catholic 10-1 at home and clinched the program’s first outright North Iowa Cedar League championship.
With five goals scored, Aiden Merrill became the program’s all-time leading goal scorer with 51.
The United scored five in each half, with two by Bentley Frisch and one each by Erhart Bern, Chase Bertram and Cooper Mulder.
The #10 (1A) Falcons defeated the Sailors 10-0 on the road. Kiara Morris notched her 38th career goal to become the program’s all-time leading scorer. The Falcons scored four in the first half and six in the second half to end the game early with the 10-goal margin.
Both teams will return to action Friday against Denver, with the boys on the road and the girls at home.
