
Aplington-Parkersburg and Grundy Center had their team seasons end Wednesday in the 1A substate tennis bracket at Luther College.
In the first round dual, the Falcons defeated the Spartans 5-0. In doubles, Kaidyn Purdy/Troy Neymeyer won 6-4, 6-3 at #1. At #2, Tyler Wedeking/Sam Janssen won 6-3, 6-2. At #3, Jonah Carney/Noah Harbaugh won 7-5, 6-1.
Needing two singles wins to advance, Neymeyer at #3 and Harbaugh at #6 finished their matches first to clinch the dual.
The Falcons advanced to play Decorah in the substate final, which defeated Clear Lake 5-0 in the first round. Jonah Carney/Noah Harbaugh won 6-4, 6-1 at #3 doubles, but the Vikings won the next five matches to move on to the state tournament with a 5-1 final.
