
Aplington-Parkersburg sophomore Tyler Wedeking has secured a spot in the IHSAA Class 1A Tennis Singles State Tournament. He won the district title at Saturday’s state qualifying tournament at Columbus Catholic.
The 2-seed in the singles bracket, Wedeking won his first two matches to reach a semifinal against Carson Laube of Grundy Center, where he earned a 6-4, 6-1 win to clinch the spot at the state tournament. In the championship match, he defeated top-seed previously undefeated Zander Freeman of Grinnell in a set tiebreaker.
Earning third place in doubles, Kaidyn Purdy/Troy Neymeyer are alternates for the state tournament.
The state tournament will be Wednesday, May 27 and Thursday, May 28.
