The Hampton-Dumont-CAL boys wrestling team returns to action Thursday night, hosting Algona and Clear Lake in a North Central Conference double dual on Senior Night.
The meet marks the Bulldogs’ final home appearance of the regular season, with postseason wrestling less than three weeks away. As the postseason approaches, Head Coach Colin Muller says the focus remains on development.
“We try to keep the room pretty light,” says Muller. “We stay on the basics. We hammer a lot of things home. Just keep developing every day. Try and have fun while doing it because this sport gets pretty long. You’ve got to make weight every single day, keeping it light, keeping it fun. Just get better at wrestling. That’s what we’re trying to focus on. We’re not really worried about wins and losses. Those will come with progress. It’s all about the process.”
Hampton-Dumont-CAL enters the meet with momentum after sweeping Iowa Falls-Alden and Charles City in a double dual on Jan. 8.
Several Bulldogs have posted strong individual records this season. Maddon Evans leads the team in pins and owns a 21-4 record. Luke Showalter is 20-7, Ryder Strother is 19-9, and Brody Strother is 18-9.
The meet is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
