The Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets girls soccer team opened the season with a 10-0 road win over Hampton-Dumont-CAL, ending the match with a penalty kick goal from Aubree Silvey with 29:45 remaining in the second half.
Grace Hartford led the Cadets with five goals, crediting the performance to strong ball movement and team chemistry.
“Kymri and Kyli are always there and, you know, there to pass me the ball and the through ball and I think that works really well for our team, for all three of us,” says Hartford. “But our team had a lot of ball movement and yeah, a lot of things are working.”
Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s Victoria Flomo had a pair of near scoring chances, missing just wide on one shot and hitting the crossbar on another.
Despite the loss, Bulldogs Head Coach Jackie Finley says she sees progress in the program.
“There are a lot of things that we did well, some things that we can improve on, but overall I think we played much better than we have last year and so I’m proud of us moving forward in a good direction,” says Finley.
The Cadets return to action on Thursday when they host Clear Lake while the Bulldogs return to play tonight when they host Humboldt.
