Ten H-D-CAL High School seniors will receive a Seal of Biliteracy upon graduation this year.
The students who are receiving the award are Israel Zamaro, Osvaldo Sanchez, Zeila Gonzalez, America Dominguez Rincon, Aimee Calles, Jhoan Sosa-Castillo, Juan Valenzuela, Graciella Urbina, Daniel Blanco-Valentin and Yareli Castro-Manzo.
The award is given to students who have attained proficiency in two or more languages, one of which is English, by high school graduation. Gov. Kim Reynolds signed Senate File 475 into law in 2018.
“We are very proud of them,” said H-D-CAL high school counselor Cynthia Krull. “It’s difficult to read, write, speak and listen in two languages … This will serve them well in their future careers and throughout their lives.”
