Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Butler County will visit farmers markets across the county this summer as part of its Meet Me at the Farmers Market series.
Program Coordinator Lesley Milius says the series was piloted last year and drew interest from residents looking for Extension resources, prompting the Extension to offer the program again this summer. This year, the program will expand to five farmers markets.
“We’re going to do it again this season and we’re actually adding a farmers market. So I’m going to have a total of five farmers markets that I will go to in Butler County. Those are the Greene farmers market, Shell Rock, Allison, Parkersburg and New Hartford. So I will be in all of those towns.”
Milius says she will make early-season visits in May and June before returning later in the season as more produce becomes available. She says the visits will include information on food preservation, upcoming Extension programs and activities for all ages.
The first visit is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, at the Greene Farmers Market at Perrin Park. The next scheduled visit will be May 28 in Allison.
Milius says residents can find the full schedule on the Butler County Extension Facebook page.
